Despite construction ranking among the top four industries with the fastest-growing wages in the country, young people are still reluctant to consider roles in the trades.
Why are attractive, well-paying roles with career advancement not being considered by many people in Canada striving for a steady career path? The reasons are varied:
According to BuildForce Canada, over 100,000 construction workers in Canada will retire over the next decade, which leaves a significant skills gap in the industry that must be addressed.
The time is now to attract new generations of construction professionals. The OHBA Job Ready Program can help.
The OHBA Job Ready Program is stepping in to educate Canadians on the career opportunities in residential construction and is committed to attracting a whole new generation of construction workers to get started in the home building industry.
The program is attractive to participants who want to be well-prepared and ready for work quickly. With training in the Ministry of Labour-required Health & Safety, the basics of residential construction, and working at heights, participants feel more confident to begin their career in the industry at no cost to them. Program participants may also complete the Level Up Program within the OHBA Job Ready Program which is a 4-week home renovation skills intensive.
To ensure that participants also feel well-equipped to plan their careers in construction, we also provide weekly 1-1 support so they can get their questions answered. This 1-1 support also extends to employers so that you feel heard throughout the work placement and your employee is set up for success.
By partnering with the OHBA Job Ready Program, you’ll not only be able to hire and onboard entry-level talent faster, but you’ll retain them more easily when you:
"The program is well-conceived and well-orchestrated as I just put 2 of my newest employees through the program. I highly recommend other companies in this industry take advantage of this amazing opportunity as it is a win, win for everyone it touches."– Louie Zagordo, President, SLV Homes
